✔ It was a great honor to be one of the nine coaches,
including Nick Bollettieri, Toni Nadal and Patrick
Mouratoglou to be interviewed for Paul Fein’s book The Fein
Points of Tennis.
✔ The 23 page interview starts with story behind how
my mother ignited my passion for tennis and changed my life.
I was 11 years old and there was a newspaper competition
with the prize being a free week at Tony Roche’s Tennis Camp
if you could answer the question: “what is Tony Roche’s
middle name?” Roche didn’t like his middle name and told
nobody. My mother, however, came up with the idea to find
Roche’s mothers telephone number and ask herself. How she
found the number and convinced Roche’s mother to tell her, I
don’t know, but eventually we won the prize.
✔ I had an amazing experience at the camp and was told by my
coach there that if I practiced hard I could be a good
tennis player. I quickly dropped the three other sports I
was playing to focus solely on tennis. Two years later I was
a nationally ranked junior and went to play NCAA Division 1
tennis followed by many wonderful years of coaching at the
NYAC. Never underestimate the benefits of a
resourceful mother.
